Thomas Edison, Gueglielmo Marconi, Ikola Tesla and Oliver Lodge are just four of the great names worth mentioning here. These are people that helped to harness electricity which laid the very foundations for evp research.

Edison was the inventor of the electric light, the motion picture camera and phonograph. In 1928 Edison was working in his laboratory deigning a machine to achieve electronic voice communication. His assistant, Dr. Miller Hutchinson wrote "Edison and I are convinced that in the fields of psychic research will yet be discovered facts that will prove of greater significance to the human race than all the inventions we have ever made in the field of electricity." Unfortunately Edison died before he could complete his invention but as he lay dying, he remarked to his physician "It’s very beautiful over there." Edison was a scientist, very factual and as a scientist would never have made this statement unless he believed it to be true.

Friedrich Juergenson, a Swedish film producer. became, in the early 1950's a great pioneer in the recording of voice phenomena after taping bird songs and discovering, when playing them back, a male voice saying something about "bird voices in the night." A Latvian psychologist, Dr. Konstantin Raudive, very much a sceptic became interested and visited Juergenson. Soon after the visit he began developing his own experimental techniques. He then catalogued numerous voices, mainly under strict laboratory conditions. In 1971 the chief engineers of PYE Records Ltd invited Juergenson to their sound lab to do a controlled experiment for which they installed special equipment to block out radio and television signals. To their amazement they discovered that it was not only Juergenson's voice that was recorded in the eighteen minutes it took to do the experiment, they had actually recorded over 200 disembodied voices.

Hans Otto Koenig developed new technologies from 1982 and in 1983 appeared on Radio Luxembourg under close supervision of the station engineers. The host, Rainer Holbe was stunned when a voice said in reply to an engineer "We hear your voice, Otto Koenig makes wireless contact with the dead." Rainer Holbe addressed millions of listeners across Europe saying "I tell you dear listeners of Radio Luxembourg, and I swear by the life of my family, I do not know from where it comes." The station issued an official statement afterwards. Every step of the programme was carefully supervised.
